Figuring out why something works instead of what something is, was the main emphasis of the age.Many things were a result of the Victorian age. One of the things that was influenced by the Victorian Age was Alfred Lord Tennyson and his poetry. He wrote a poem Ulysses. Some of the characteristics of the poem Ulysses was, it uses Carpe Diem traits, such that it made the reader want to go "Seize the day," ang go live life to its fullest. The poem tells of an old adventurer stuck in a part of his life where the only progress he had was moving closer to death. He later left his land, in old age, to set sail and explore more knowledge that the world offered to him.. “Old age hath yet his honour and his toil; Death closes all,” In this line of the poem he writes about a theme of death, and mentions the scientifical aspect of death versus the religious part. Tennyson's poetry reflected the beliefs and understandings of the Victorian age.
